Every year I like to do one or two of these posts. It’s a great way to share some recommendations I really want you all to know about as well as get YOUR recommendations. And since I seem to do them in January, I thought, why break a tradition now?!
“currently” I am…
reading…a lot of historical fiction. This is a surprise, as I have mentioned before that historical fiction isn’t my favorite genre. See what two I have already finished in 2017 on my Book Review page. I just started The Dream Lover: A Novel, a book about George Sand (should be interesting). Just to mix it up, I also started a religious book called Confronting the Controversies: Biblical Perspectives on Tough Issues. I am a little scared of the book on controversies but, given how volatile and kind of scary the world seems to be right now, it seems time to figure myself out, especially as my children grow and I am expected to lead them.
eating… these overnight oatmeal concoctions from Another Root. I love them. I make two batches Monday night so I can take them to work on my days in office. But since we are mostly a gluten free household now, I have been stretching my creativity. I also research a lot about food and recipes. Follow me on Pinterest to get the best ideas (they aren’t my own!).
thinking…about my husband’s health. It should be obvious from what I write and share that healthy living really compels me. And I worry because my husband isn’t necessarily on the same bandwagon as me. Not that he is unhealthy, perse. Yet he makes decisions that make me scratch my head. Then I start to think about how our decisions now affect our future later and there I go, off and running with obsessive thoughts. But watching his habits while considering my own, it makes me wonder: are men and women fundamentally different when it comes to how they treat their own bodies? Is this a Mars/Venus thing? Or is there something about the way we are raised that makes a lot of men considerably more relaxed about how they consume and treat their bodies than women?
Clearly, I am making sweeping generalizations. But watching how different so many husbands are from their wives when it comes to health and preventative measures (and corresponding consequences), it makes me wonder.
enjoying… my new fitness watch. But you already knew that.
watching… a lot of Chopped. I like to watch it while I eat crappy frozen meals. It’s ironic. My husband and I are also slowly working through White Collar. I am not good a binge-watching, so I like to say we are “savoring it.”
loving… all of the great writing on the Internet these days. There are so many blogs that operate as magazines, and it is phenomenal to watch. still being [Molly] has been so exciting to follow as she heads to Kenya, all while still providing lifestyle tips; I have been reading Emily Henderson’s blog devoutly of late, even if her design style is so far from my personal preference, simply for her personality and those rare posts where she lets lose on life; Modern Mrs. Darcy fuels my book and bullet journaling loves while keeping it simple; and Lisa-Jo Baker doesn’t post often but it always feels like she knows EXACTLY what I need to hear.
For fun, I went back and looked at all my Currently posts. Some made me laugh to read today (I want to pat myself on the head in a condescendingly loving way), but I am so glad they are there! Here is the full list, if you have extra time to spend in Internet land…
