Run Like A Mother: Giveaway!

2014-4-14 RLAM giveaway

I know.  Giving away stuff for a 5k might feel to some of you as though I am giving away labor pains.  You might say “no thanks, Al.”  BUT HOLD UP.  Because Run Like A Mother is a different kind of 5k.

RLAM is a race I am honored to partner with and, if you have been here for awhile, you will note that this is the first sponsor of any kind that I have taken here on GDM. (Oh, & I am still not paid for this, but these are the first people I will take freebies from for you all because I believe in them that much.)

Run Like A Mother is coming to Raleigh on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11, 2004.  But they have races all over the country on the same day: Connecticut, Portland, California, Seattle, Milwaukee, Frisco, and Illinois. We aren’t the only lucky ones.

After a big, toasty warm bagel slathered in cream cheese for breakfast I can’t think of another way to celebrate being a mom than joining a collaborative, friendly, all-female 5K that embraces the power of moms and is all about doing something good for ourselves.  Because moms: we CAN do anything.  Including make it the distance of a 5k. And we deserve the time to invest in our own health.

In the words of Run Like A Mother:

This women’s race series applauds women on Mother’s Day and offers support, mnotivation, inspiration, advice, training tips, education, nutrition and recipes, and industry news thoughout the year…

You don’t even have to leave the family at home this Mother’s Day (unless you want to).  There is a kids’ 1-mile run that happens at the same time.

By the way, if you are not a runner, don’t worry!  You don’t need to be. Trust me.  If you will recall, I am not a runner myself as evidenced by my tips on running and the fact that my last 5k was last year in the form of the irreverent but awesome Color Run.  I am with you.  But this 5k is a great fit.

RLAM offers training programs out of one of the YMCAs in town and while it is very low pressure it is also incredibly supportive.  RLAM wants to meet you wherever you are: preferrably that’s at the Kerr Family YMCA once a week.

Honestly, all levels welcome on the RLAM team.  The only requirement is a heart for fun.

So even if you don’t win my spiffy first-ever giveaway, please head here to sign up for the day and/or to join the training crew: runlikeamother.com.

As for me: I am giving away 1 super-cool T-shirt and 1 tote bag to get you ready for the Big Day (and you don’t have to be near me to win).  But, truly, I encourage everyone to sign up for this race if you are town. Run Like A Mother – Run Like the Mother you are!

This giveaway will be open until April 21st at 12:00 am.

I’m running a 5K with my kids in two weeks – not my first 5k, but the first one I’m running with people I gave birth to – yikes!

I have ran in several 5ks and my favorite part is conquering my challenge. After training hard and pushing myself, it feels good to cross the finish feeling accomplished.

I have ran/walked in a couple of local 5k’s. My favorite is the Southern Village 5K because of the sense of community I feel…and the fact that my husband, kids, and my mother all did the race.

Favorite 5k was last years RLAM! Ran with my mom, her first 5k and she placed 2nd in her age group, while my 5 year old did the mile! It was a Mother’s Day I will never forget!

My favorite one was the last one I ran, in early March, even though it was cold out!
